Roxanne Watson, LPC
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor whose work centers on bereavement, grief, and loss. I hold the Certified Grief Informed Professional (CGP) credential and sit with people after the death of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, or friend, as well as after losses that reshape a life in other ways: divorce, infertility, estrangement, a diagnosis, or the end of a version of yourself you expected to become. Grief shows up in the body, in sleep, in work, and in relationships. I help clients understand what is happening to them and find a way to carry it.
Before opening my solo practice, I served as a Clinical Director and spent years in outpatient care, including case management for a high-acuity population. That background shapes how I work today. I bring structure and clinical depth to sessions, and I know that people in acute grief need warmth and steadiness.
In individual therapy, we work at your pace. Some clients come to me within weeks of a death and need help navigating the funeral, the paperwork, and the first holidays. Others arrive two or ten years later because a loss they thought they had handled is resurfacing. I draw on grief-specific approaches, including work with prolonged grief, and I pay close attention to losses that others around you may not recognize or know how to talk about.
I also lead grief support groups because grief can be isolating, and there is comfort in sitting with others who understand. Groups offer a consistent space to share your story, hear how others are coping, and learn practical tools for the hardest days. If you are curious whether a group is a good fit for you, whether alone or alongside individual therapy, I’m happy to talk it through.
Finally, I offer one-on-one consultations for therapists in two areas. The first is clinical: many clinicians receive little grief-specific training, and I help colleagues think through complex cases, deepen their work with clients, and move past the point where sessions start to feel stuck. The second is practice management. As a former Clinical Director, I know what it takes to run a practice that sustains you. I help therapists build a full caseload, refine their referral streams, and set up systems that free up energy for the clients in the room. Whether you are seeking support for your own loss or for the work you do with others, I would be glad to hear from you.

Transitions
The end of a relationship can upend your home, your routines, your friendships, and the future you were planning. Breakup grief often gets less sympathy than other losses, so many people are left wondering why they can’t just move on. Roxanne helps you make sense of what you lost, untangle the hurt from the habits, and rebuild a life that feels like yours again.
What happened to the person I was? Who am I now? Career changes, illness, infertility, caregiving, retirement, and motherhood can leave you feeling like a stranger to yourself. Roxanne can help name what has changed, grieve the version of you that is gone, and get curious about who you are becoming.
The death of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, or friend can affect your sleep, your body, your work, and every relationship around you. Roxanne offers a steady place to tell the story of your loss, honor the person you have lost, and find ways to carry grief through the first holidays and anniversaries and the years that follow.
From married to divorced, from being the child to being the caregiver, from no nest to parenting to an empty nest, life is full of transitions. With each one, we lose something along the way. Roxanne helps you acknowledge those losses, even those that come with good change, so you can move into the next chapter with greater clarity and less weight.

Native Austinite, lifelong helper.
A native Austinite, with Bay Area roots, I’ve always been keenly interested and attuned to what makes people tick.
After graduating high school from good old Stephen F. Austin High (Go Maroons!) I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of San Francisco. Before determining my long term career plan, I experimented with different jobs, eventually pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward's University.
My first mental health position was at Integral Care working with unhoused adults experiencing severe mental illness. From there, I spent nine years providing individual therapy at a local therapy group Therapy Austin. I also invested in furthering my profession by playing key roles in growing the agency it into the top-tier training site that it became. I was promoted up through various leadership positions, taking on more and more administrative and managerial responsibility.
As my family grew, the flexibility of private practice became a better fit. In 2023, I stepped down as Clinical Director and opened my solo practice, Roxanne Watson Therapy, PLLC.
