Definition of Counseling/Therapy

In its broadest definition, counseling is a forum that is dedicated to growing into a more authentic and autonomous self. It is about evolving beyond old ways of being that no longer work, ways that have become painful or futile. It is a method by which you can learn to live life more fully and be more fully you.

Benefits of Therapy

My clients benefit from therapy in many ways:

  • create calmer thinking out of anxiety
  • become empowered out of powerlessness
  • develop fulfilling relationships out of limiting patterns
  • learn assertiveness out of ineffective anger
  • create fulfilling work lives out of unstable employment
  • hone discernment out of mistrust and poor choices
  • move to resolution out of grief and resentment
  • find new growth out of painful change

How can I get the most out of the counseling process?

Counseling services in Austin are offered to individuals and groups seeking help for emotional struggles, like depression, divorce, parenting, crisis, anxiety, or anger. What specific services do you offer?

Role of a Counselor

My main role as counselor is to co-create a relationship with my clients which fosters all of the above. This includes acting as guide, facilitator, mirror, sounding board and filter. The client's part is to show up with all the stuff in their worlds that is not working AND have the intention of transforming it.

Qualities of a Therapist

My clients find me to be an empathic listener, a keen observer, and a calming presence. In addition to time-honored methods of clinical intervention, I weave in other techniques based on the burgeoning research regarding our body-mind intelligence. These include focusing, EMDR, relaxation and developing mindfulness.
